We need a 1/4 mile race track in Campbell River

Postby andrucken on Sat Oct 04, 2008 9:06 pm

We need to build a 1/4 mile race track here in our area,It will bring a much needed economic boost to our economy aswell as give that very needed outlet for our racing needs,The Island needs another outlet, just look at those ferry prices , almost $1000 return for a race team to have a run on the mainland. So makes sence to build it here. We would have friday night drags for street cars as often as possible, aswell as a host of events for the drag cars on the weekends. We need all the help we can get .So lets start by hearing from you and your ideas. Please feel free to voice your opinion and to vote "YES" ,The poll results will be needed to help get the city of C.R to let this happen,So vote. thanks, Andy

It is just great to see the racers of the island unite to push for a proper safe track to call our own.I make my money on the island and would rather spend it here and not give it all to B.C ferries.coastalmotorsports

In response to Andy and coastal motor sports post,I crew cheif those two 1955 chevys on the home page of CRDRAGS,They belong to Brad Lance Racing. With Bull driving the purple 7 sec car and Randy driving the copper 8 sec car. When we're racing in Mission or Ashcroft I see alot of Vancouver Island Race cars having to travel to these venues. In this i know there is a need for a for a NHRA / IHRA type race track. Everyone I have talked to from the Island , from Victoria to Port McNeil says the average cost for them to get over there for a weekend of racing costs aprox. anyway from 700 to 1400 bucks depending on the height and length of their trucks and trailers. So with my good buddy Andy and myself and alot of help and support of friends and comunity, we're gonna bug the hell outta the city to give us the zoning we need to facilitate this much needed track. And benifit the whole comunity. And like coastal motor sports said!!!! LETS KEEP OUR MONEY ON OUR iSLAND !!!! Have a great day and may nothing breakl. Eric

1/8 is fine but 1/4 brings out the big guns, "Full throttle hair straight back" We actually would attend more off island 1/4 mile races except the costs get stupid out of hand, lets keep spending the money local and promote the island....... Campbell River gets my vote

a most definate yes,as proof ,investigate the port alberni success story, with over 300 cars for competition, and the vast majority from island, indicates the financial investment by the population in vehicles for dragging, easily millions, not counting the fan base!I raced at a conservative personal cost of hundreds of dollars for the sole reason of pleasure.Im sure that was the case for 99% of the participants! Dragging at the grass root level is a sport that costs thousands and the racers are happy with ten dollar trophys." Build it and they will come!"

Wow, big news. Having a 1/4 mile facility in Campbell River would be huge. Look at Port Alberni...tons of cars coming out to race on an air strip once a year. It shows you the pent up demand on the Island. The short tracks are appreciated, but they simply don't draw out the serious racers and fans. I suggest that having a track NHRA sanctioned is important, as it attaches the track to the circuit and formalizes the racing program. When you attend the other NHRA tracks across Division 6 you can see the money that the tracks bring into the communities where they are located. If you look out 10 or 20 years the Island population will only get bigger. I wouldn't doubt that having a 1/4 strip might even bring some people over from the mainland permanently just for that reason. Get away from the Vancouver rat race but have the same benefits for racing. For many people drag racing is more than a hobby, it's a life style (or maybe an "addiction"). This is quite exciting...and if Tim moves down it would be even better!!!

I've only drag raced twice, both times here in Port. I'm all for a dedicated motorsports facility on the island and if it centers around a 1/4 mile strip so be it. I am more dedicated to Autocross, but it's all relative. We all love our cars and want/need a place to go play with them.
